On Wednesday afternoon, we will explore the botanical garden of Osnabrück's university.
The Botanical Garden of Osnabrück University spreads across two scenic former quarries and an open area near the biology building. The main garden, set in ancient limestone cliffs from the Triassic period, features limestone from the Triassic period, about 230 million years old, with steep rock walls and an alpine garden. Outdoor displays focus on plant regions like North America, Asia, the Alps, and the Mediterranean, along with themes like medicinal plants and the Tertiary period. A nature reserve protects native species in the second quarry. The rainforest greenhouse, opened in 1998, houses over 800 tropical plant species. The garden supports research, teaching, and public education in botany.
